Hantavirus infection is a serious, life-threatening illness caused by inhalation of the virus. The virus is carried in the airborne particles of rodent urine, droppings and / or saliva. The primary carrier of Hantavirus is the deer mouse however the Centers for Disease Control has identified it in other rodents as well including white-footed mice, cotton rats and rice rats.
